At Good Shepherd Farms, we raise Katahdin sheep with the same care and integrity that defines everything we do. Whether you’re looking to start a small homestead flock or improve the genetics of your existing herd, our lambs and yearlings are bred for performance, resilience, and ease of management.
Our flock is carefully managed with a focus on natural health, strong genetics, and low-stress care. We raise our sheep in a rotational grazing system on organically managed pastures — never grain-fed or confined. The result? Animals that are well-adapted to forage-based systems and bred to thrive.
Key Traits of Our Katahdins:
Grass-Fed & Grain-Free – No grain supplements. Sheep are raised on pasture, hay, and alfalfa only.
Strong Genetics – We breed from flocks with proven lineage, including animals registered and/or connected to NSIP (National Sheep Improvement Program).
High Parasite Resistance – Selected for low-maintenance and natural disease resistance.
Hot-Wire Trained – All livestock are trained to electric net fencing for easy pasture management.
Rotational Grazing Practices – Improves soil health and keeps animals thriving year-round.
Free Choice Minerals & Vitamins – Supports long-term health and reduces stress-related issues.
Our goal is to raise sheep that are not only easy to care for but also set up for long-term success — whether they’re going to a new farm or expanding a current flock.
All of our sheep are hot-wire trained to electric net fencing. This makes them much easier to manage in rotational systems and reduces fencing headaches for new owners. Whether you’re building out a multi-acre setup or managing a smaller homestead, our sheep are ready to adapt.
Animal health starts with land health. That’s why all of our livestock are raised on organically managed pastures using a rotational grazing system. This method ensures fresh, diverse forage throughout the year and helps maintain soil fertility without the use of synthetic inputs.
We do not grain-finish or supplement with commercial feed. Instead, our sheep thrive on a 100% forage-based diet that includes:
Grass
Hay
Alfalfa
They also have free-choice access to minerals and vitamins at all times, which helps prevent nutritional deficiencies and stress-related health issues — naturally supporting a stronger, healthier flock from the inside out.
Our farm is located in Pylesville, Maryland. Livestock pickup is available by appointment, and local delivery may be arranged on a case-by-case basis.
Whether you’re just starting out or looking to expand your flock with naturally raised, low-input animals — we’d love to help.
